Everyone has their ideas of what they are looking for in an EDC knife. For me, it’s about making sure that one tool can perform more that one job.

An EDC knife, to me, needs to perform two roles. The first as a defensive tool and the second as a rescue tool. I generally don’t use this knife for utility purposes, that’s the job for my multi-tools blade.

My Top Pick: The CRKT M16-14ZLEK

My absolute favorite EDC knife is the CRKT M16-ZLEK (click here to check it out on Amazon) For a folding knife, this thing is packed with features that make it more than just a knife but also a full-fledged rescue tool.

This knife also includes a seatbelt/strap cutter and a carbide glass breaker. Two important rescue tools to extract yourself or someone else from a vehicle.

The 3.75″ AUS 8 Stainless Steel Blade has just the right amount of heft, which makes it open real smooth and easy, making it great for self-defense.

What makes this knife perfect for most everyone is its versatile pocket clip placement. The pocket clip can be placed in four different positions to accommodate left or right-hand users and tip up or tip down.

The Runner Up: The Kershaw Blur Glassbreaker

The runner up was my EDC knife for many years. Check out the Kershaw Blur Glassbreaker here.

The Blur has a 3.4″ blade with Kershaw’s SpeedSafe opening system and a carbide glass breaker. The SpeedSafe system makes for a fast opening blade for quick deployment.
